About our Head Coach

Andy Gardner is Head Coach at Corinium Fitness. He is an experienced Triathlon Coach, Triathlete,  Personal Trainer and Sport Massage Therapist.


Andy has been actively involved in triathlon for more than a decade and is an accredited British Triathlon Federation Level 3 Coach, Natural Running Coach and has successfully completed the Swim Smooth Coach Education course. He provides coaching in all triathlon disciplines – swim (including Open Water), bike and run. He has experience of coaching triathletes of all abilities and backgrounds. He has coached juniors to success at national level, has worked with British Triathlon, preparing the GB paratriathlon team for world championship events and has helped many new and experienced triathletes to success in events ranging from local pool based sprint triathlons to ironman events across the globe.


As well as coaching individual triathletes at Corinium Fitness, Andy is an experienced club  coach and has provided coaching for Joe Friel’s TrainingBible UK organisation.


Andy is a successful and active triathlete competing in events on a regular basis at all distances up to and including Ironman. He has been racing in triathlon since 2001.


In 2003 Andy helped set up and establish Tri Team Glos Young Triathletes (TTGYT) and at the same time became a coach. During his time at TTGYT he coached junior triathletes to a high level, resulting in the club having a strong representation in the South West Regional Team at the Inter Regional Championships (IRC) over many years.  Andy helped establish the South West Academy for junior triathletes and was Head Coach for the South West IRC team. Andy’s coaching also enabled triathletes to qualify for the national cross-country running championships.


Andy coached the Tri Team Glos senior team and coached several triathletes who represented GB at the world championships. He has also coachied triathletes on an individual basis, helping newbies to find their feet and providing personal training plans for experienced triathletes to help them improve their performance. He was one of the first coaches to work for Joe Friel’s TrainingBible UK organisation, using state of the art technology to help local and remote athletes reach their potential.


Andy worked with British Triathlon, coaching and developing a national paratriathlon squad. This involved working with athletes with a wide variety of disabilities, understanding their specific needs, and preparing them for participation at the world championships.


In order to better understand alternate approaches to running Andy is a certified Natural Running coach. He was selected to attend the Swim Smooth Coach Education course, which he successfully completed providing him with a wealth of skills and knowledge to further advance his understanding of swim coaching.

Andy currently coaches a number of private clients in triathlon and single discipline sports, he coaches at the local triathlon club and runs the Corinium Fitness Swim squad. He provides individual swim tuition and can provide a comprehensive swim video analysis service to help athletes understand opportunities to improve their swimming.

Andy is a British Triathlon Level 3 Accredited coach and has been coaching for over 10 years. He has coached all ages and abilities from novices to elite athletes, including the UK paratriathlon team.
